Bobby Joe Hill Sr., 83 of Mexia, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cowboy Church of Corsicana, 5164 W. Hwy 31, with Derek Rogers officiating.
Bobby was born on March 27, 1942 in Crockett, Texas to Joe & Pauline Hill. He was a three-time AQHA World Champion and was known for his great calf horses. Bobby mounted out some of the greatest calf ropers of all time, like PRCA World Champions Fred Whitfield, Joe Beaver, Herbert Theriot and Roy Cooper. Two horses that were standouts (trained by the late Robbie Schroeder) were Chip and Lil Grey (which was sold to Roy Cooper).
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jerry, Jack, Billy, Jimmy, Betty, Judy and Cleo. Left behind to cherish his memories are his children, Bobby Joe Hill II & wife, Tara of Mexia and Becky Jo Mattice & husband, Bobby of Hondo, Texas; grandsons, Trace Mattice of Hondo and Tripp Hill of Mexia; brother, Mack Alan Hill as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobby's son, Bobby Joe, has asked that although flowers are nice, please consider instead making a memorial contribution in Bobby's honor to the Cody NesSmith Foundation.
