Bonnie Coones, 85 of Bryan, Texas, entered into eternal rest on June 20, 2022 in Bryan. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel. At her request, Ms. Coones will be cremated afterwards.
Bonnie Ruth Coones was born in Cook County Illinois August 8, 1936. She grew up in the middle of 14 siblings to tobacco farming parents. Her family moved with the seasons. As a child she was placed in the care of her older sister Gee Crisp, where some stability was found. In 1959 at around age 23 Bonnie found her way to Texas, which became her permanent home.
Bonnie was mother of 4 children, Terri, Allen, Tony and Brenda. Being a Momma of 4 was a struggle for Bonnie and she found herself hard pressed at times to make difficult choices for her children’s care and best interests. Bonnie’s children came to understand that she mothered them as best she could. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they loved her right back. Her surviving children remained close to her, with Brenda being her caregiver in recent years.
In her younger years Bonnie was a hard worker with a sunny personality. These characteristics showed through in her years waiting tables at Bryan restaurants and cafes. She made friends easily. Bonnie eventually gravitated her work life to caring for the elderly. She was a caring and dedicated caregiver.
One of Bonnie’s favorite past times was crocheting. For 17 years she donated her time, effort, and talents in creating crocheted blankets to donate to the patients in the Veterans hospital.
Bonnie loved shopping at Walmart, as well as treasure hunting at garage sales and thrift shops. A promise of a trip to Walmart would get Bonnie out of her “sick and tired” bed. If she didn’t have the strength to go, she would work hard to get better. She loved to be on the go, shopping, rides around town, a good meal out.
Bonnie had a mischievous sense of humor and charm that led some of those closest to her to believe that her motto could have been “It’s easier to get forgiveness than permission”. She had a certain twinkle when she had done something mischievous that she knew she probably need to be forgiven for.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her 12 brothers and sisters and one daughter, Theresa Carrizolis. Survivors include her sons, Allen Crisp, Mark Anthony & wife, Melba; daughter, Brenda Morgan; grandchildren, Jimmy Owens, Kris Owens, June Chadwell and April Sullivan; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
