Herman Corey “Peck” Griffin, 50, entered into the arms of Jesus on July 8, 2024 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mexia with Randy Ayers, officiating. Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service at the church, starting at 10:00 a.m.
Corey was born on December 19, 1973 in Knox City, TX to Gary and Liz Griffin. He moved with his parents and brother, Chad, to Mexia in 1982 and graduated from Mexia High School in 1992. Corey’s love of sports began while playing baseball as a child, with his dad often coaching his team. Throughout his life, Corey could regularly be found on the golf course with his buddies. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, but always idolized the 1985 Chicago Bears team, especially running back Walter Payton.
Corey had a larger-than-life personality and never met a stranger. He loved to make people laugh and was always the life of the party. He owned Griffin Lawn Services along with his family and was proud to build it into a successful business. After work, he enjoyed watching whatever sport was in season — from football to baseball to golf, Corey enjoyed them all. Music was also an important part of Corey’s life, with his favorite artist being Waylon Jennings.
Corey was a member of Word of Life Family Worship Center in Groesbeck, Texas where he was baptized on January 5, 2020.
Though he had much to be proud of, Corey’s greatest accomplishments were his two daughters, Payton & Kaydence. From the moment they were born, his girls were his entire world. He was their biggest fan and never missed an opportunity to tell them how amazing and loved they are. They know they will forever be “Daddy’s Little Girls.”
Corey was preceded in death by his father, Gary Griffin; maternal grandparents, Robert and Martha Nell Sickles; paternal grandparents, Monroe & Inez Griffin; and best friend, Clynton Cade Henderson.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Payton Ryan Griffin and Kaydence Danese Griffin of Axtell; mother, Liz Griffin of Mexia; brother, Chad Griffin of Mexia; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Corey also leaves behind numerous friends who he loved deeply and a special employee, Anthony Miller.
Serving as pallbearers for the services will be John Akin, Lee Griffin, James Harrison, Jon Harrison, Matt Keuhn, John Van Winkle, Kasey Webb, and Bryan Wood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jason Ball, Matthew Cockrell, Patrick Frazier, Alex New, and Colby New.
