David Isham, Sr.,76 of Teague, passed away on November 19, 2023 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church in Mexia with Brother Paul Moore, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Teague. Visitation with the family will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church.
Mr. Isham was born in Houston, Texas on January 30, 1947 and spent most of his life in and around Teague, Mexia and Dallas. After high school, David served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968. After the service, he spent a lot of his career in truck driving, starting in the 1980’s. After retirement from driving a commercial truck, he worked for Auto Zone and Long Industries. His last job was for LaSalle Corrections escorting the medical staff as they made their rounds. He earned their respect as he boldly let everyone know he was a Christian man, including those who were incarcerated there. Many called him Paw Paw.
David loved to cook and spent many hours on FB searching out recipes and then trying them out. He was an excellent cook. His favorite thing to do was fish and take things apart and NEVER put them back together.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Henry Isham; sisters, Betty and Shirley; brothers, Billy Jo, Henry Jr., Homer, Sammy, Jesse and Danny; grandson, Chase; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lillian and Carl; sister-in-law, Donna. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 18 years, Nancy; his children, Davy Isham and wife, Debbie of Mexia, Johnny Isham and wife, Anzhie of Wills Point and Dusty Little and husband, Troy of DeKalb, Texas, Nicholas Posey of Austin, Steven Posey and wife, Kandis of Centerville; Joy and husband, Jacob of Waco; grandchildren, Devin, Taylor, Cody, Dustin, Mia, Cameron, Ashley, Ella, Cory, Toryee, Dakota, Brandon, Tori, Zachary, Beau, Newton, Merida, Jillayne, Jamesyn Tessa; great-grandchildren, Aubrielle, EJ, Emmett, Layla,. Elliot, Rayden, Oliver, Ayden, Gemma, Kellan, Maci Jo, Kynslie, Aspyn, Makenna and Sawyer; sisters, Carol Compton and husband, Graham of Mexia and Geneva Martin of Mexia; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Bubba Isham, Nick Posey, Steven Posey, Graham Compton, Pepper Tweedle, Jacob Hooter, Troy Little, Terry Adams Jr. and Dakota Wimberly.
The family ask that memorial contributions in Mr. Isham’s memory be made to Accent Care Hospice and the Home Health of Waco. Lunch will be served at the church before the service, at 11:30 a.m.
