James Richard “Dicky” Thornton, Jr., 78 of Wortham, passed away on July 25, 2021 at Palestine Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Wortham Cemetery with Reverend Mike Fautt and Pastor Brian Brice, officiating.
Dicky was born on July 3, 1943 in Terrell, Texas to James Richard “Dick” & Isabel Shivers Thornton. He graduated from Mexia High School and was a past member of the Mexia National Guard. He was retired from the Mexia State Supported Living Center and was a goat rancher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick & Isabel Thornton; Travis Wayne Thornton & wife, Florence, all previously of Tehuacana, and brother-in-law, Leo Bradshaw previously of Waco.
Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 12 years, Lynita Craig Thornton of Wortham; son, James Richard “Trey” Thornton III; daughter, Tiffany Peterson & husband, Leslie Peterson of Haslett, Texas, son, Joseph DeWayne Smith of Wortham; daughter, Caressa “KiKi” Thomas of Wortham; sisters, Rebecca Bosley and husband, Jim of Kirvin; Jeannie Bradshaw of Waco; grandsons, Spencer James Thornton of Wylie, Texas, Trevor Christian Paterson & Logan Charles Patterson of Haslett, Texas Bryce Jones-Thornton of Waco; granddaughter, Justyne Adella Thomas McCafferty of Wortham; special niece, Anita Jean Thornton of Tehuacana and her family, Chris & B.K. Hoag of Tehuacana; Ashley Hoag & children, Dallas Crundwell, Peyton Hoag, Tucker Hoag of Tehuacana; Brandon Batreall & wife Chrystal and their children, Jasmine & Branch of Tehuacana; a host of other nieces and nephews; as well as his faithful riding companion and sidekick, his yellow lab, Rowdy Thornton.
Serving as pallbearers are Spencer Thornton, Trevor Christian Peterson, Logan Charles Peterson, Bryce Jones-Thornton, Chris Hoag, Brandon Batreall, Douglas Thornton and Joseph Smith.
