Dorothy Allen Obituary

Dorothy Lee Allen, 87 of Mexia, passed away on September 7, 2021.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday. September 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Michael Vestal, officiating.  Interment will follow at Pt. Enterprise Cemetery.  Family visitation will be held on Saturday evening from 5-7p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on May 14, 1934 in Abilene, Texas.   She retired from the Mexia State School and earned an Associate’s Degree in the process.  She loved her big family, especially The Love of her life, Charles, “Charlie.” They built a successful business together over their lifetime and almost 55 years of marriage.  She loved her church, Temple Baptist church where she was a member for years. Loved the Lord, and her audio Bible that she listened to everyday.  She loved music and almost all old gospel music as she loved her choir participation.  Even though she lost most of her vision many years ago, never slowed her down and she adapted. Loved that she would stand with a hymnal while singing in the choir and could not read a word of it, she had them all memorized.  She loved her Dallas Cowboys and yelling at the TV on Sundays.

Eating Mexican food was almost her part time job. Family gatherings always included her dressing and quad cakes! Very often you could find her sitting at Charlie's harassing people/customers as they came and went and she loved it and cutting up.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, James Grider; all her siblings, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Dorothy is survived by her Husband, Charles “Charlie” Allen of Mexia; daughter Pam Curtis and husband Ricky (Red) of Sanger, Texas, daughter Nelda Grider of Frognot, son Thomas (Bud) Hallford and wife Kelly of East Tawakoni, Texas, son Ed Hallford and wife Peggy of Blueridge, Texas, daughter, Rhonda Matthews and husband Randy of Wimberley, Texas; 14 grandkids and 19 great-grandkids; numerous nieces and nephews from around the country; as well as sister-in-law, Maudene Allen of Mexia.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Daniel Grider, Jacob Curtis, Nolan Grider, Michael Grider, Jordan Hallford, Nathan Hallford, Michael Matthews and Dylan Matthews.
