Funeral services for Fred Marsh Currie, 91 of Mexia will be held on Saturday July 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Chaplain Jon Honea, officiating. Interment will follow at Pt. Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Friday evening from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services.
Fred was born on January 3, 1933 in Ridge, Texas to Carl and Molly Perkins Currie. After graduating from high school, Fred had many different career paths throughout his life. He was a pipe fitter, boiler maker, and machinist specialist. He and his wife, Helen owned a local feed business and laundromat in Mexia. He was an avid animal lover, and enjoyed working on his farm. He travelled all over the country acquiring chickens that he raised. Amongst his family and friends, Fred is remembered as a great father, grandfather and friend. Ever the jokester, Fred loved playing pranks on his family, and enjoyed games of Rook, Dominoes, or Chess with his children and grandchildren. Fred will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren, family, and loved ones.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Currie, daughter, Deborah Louise Bowman, and grandson, Tom Jeffrey Hensel; siblings, Carl “Sonny” Currie, Bob Currie, Maggie McCleskey, and William Currie.
He is survived by his children, Randy Currie, Rusty Currie and wife, Dee, Carrie Dazey and husband, Leonard; Grandchildren, William Currie, Vanessa Perkins and husband, Jeremy, Sandy Coleman and spouse, Sam, Allen Currie and wife, Laura, Freddie Hensel and wife, Julie, Rusty Dazey, and Sheldon Kirsh. Great-Grandchildren, Jeffrey Hensel, Aimee Avera, Kaeman Marsh Perkins, Clay Perkins, Jordan Dazey, Katelynn Dazey, and Millie Avera. Sister, Dorothy Coe, Sisters-In-Law, Relda Louise Parker, and Kathryn Currie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Serving as pallbearers are, Freddie Hensel, Allen Currie, Jordan Dazey, Jeremy Perkins, Clay Perkins, and Clifton Padgett.
