Gary Dell Brooks, born on July 7, 1945 in Corsicana, TX was sent to his eternal home on October 2, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late O'Dell and Louise Brooks.
Gary was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, and compassion. A devoted bird-watcher, he was most at home with a pair of binoculars and a bird identification guide. He could often be found on the trails at state parks, patiently tracking the movements and songs of migratory birds. Gary spent countless hours cultivating a backyard sanctuary and teaching his children to identify different bird species by their calls.
He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was often spending his spare time researching topics of interest or completing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed watching high school football and supporting his children and grandchildren in all types of sports. The Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros were his teams to watch and he was an avid TCU Horned frog fan. He enjoyed being surrounded by family in which, he would seize the opportunity for a game of trivial pursuit or charades. Gary loved exploring and never turned down a good road trip. He really enjoyed his trips to Hawaii, Yellowstone and other State parks. Any trip that included his children or grandchildren was an added bonus for him.
Gary is survived by his children Michael Brooks (wife Amber), Eric Brooks (wife Tammy), Amanda Tollett, Wayne Jackson, Monica Stanford (husband Ronnie), his sister Linda Carr (husband Ricky), 12 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren as well as nephews and nieces. Gary will be missed by all.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be conducted at Jones Funeral Home in Mexia, Texas with details pending at this time.
