Bud Wright was born on July 19, 1926 in Mexia, Texas to Dowey & Phara Wright. At a young age, he worked at the local Safeway until he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Southern Pacific during World War II. After serving his country, he moved to Humble, Texas and was the crew foreman for a company that constructed & deconstructed drilling rigs in the oil rich region of S.E. Texas, and was subsequently a master carpenter before he retired and moved back home to Point Enterprise. His passions were fishing, frying his proud catches of catfish, mowing not only his but neighbor’s yards, tinkering in his workshop and repairing anything in need of repair. He enjoyed growing tomatoes and other vegetables in his garden, his delicious homemade sweet tea, pocketknives, rods and reels, blue bell vanilla ice cream, and the assortment of candy, snacks, fruits & vegetables that completely occupied his kitchen table. Bud could be characterized as being a very independent, private, and old-fashioned man who was know by all as having a strong work ethic.
