Hazel Calame, 95 of Wortham, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 at the Teague Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wortham Cemetery with Jeff Looney officiating.
Mrs. Calame was born on December 17, 1930 in Limestone County, Texas to Millard Thomas and Winnie Iona Hosea. Hazel grew up on the West Ranch in Richland. She married Roy Alvis Calame Jr on August 8, 1947 whom she spent 75 years with until his passing in 2022. She worked at the Wortham Hospital as a nurse’s aide and later in the lunch room at the Wortham ISD.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Calame and infant son, Jeffrey Dale Calame.
Survivors include her sons, Richard Calame & wife, Marsha of Wortham and Rodney Calame & wife, Pam of Mexia; grandchildren, Kasie McGowan & husband, Mike of Wortham, Jamie Nibbe & husband, Andy of Teague, Sarah Simpson & husband, Evan of Mexia, Bryan Calame & wife, Rachel of Wortham and Cody Calame & wife Kimberly of Wortham; great- grandchildren, Macee Barlett & husband, Nathan, Kara Gonzales & husband, Jose, Justin Hargis, James Hargis, Natalie Nibbe and Ava & Ellie Simpson, Tatum Calame and Rockie Calame, Ava Silva and Asher Morgan, and great, great-grandchildren Teagan Bartlett, Harlie Gonzales, Adalynn Gonzales, Noah Gonzales, Sayler Bartlett, and Malcolm McGowan and her sisters, Earline Huff and Billye Ryno.
