Helen Currie

Helen Currie, 87 of Mexia, passed away on September 5, 2023 at the Skilled Care of Mexia.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel.  Interment will follow at Pt. Enterprise Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Currie was born on March 6, 1936 in Oletha, Texas to Bryan Pete & Irene Roark Padgett.  She married Fred Currie on March 30, 1951.  Together, they owned a laundromat and a feedstore, for which she helped run and kept the books for.  She enjoyed life to the fullest.  She was a very big Dallas Cowboys fan.  Helen is described as the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother you could ask for.  She raised two generations of grandchildren. 

Helen was preceded in death by her niece, Rita McIntire; siblings, Roland Padgett; Dorothy Dillard, Maydie Malone, Virgina Bond, Shorty Padgett; daughter, Deborah Bowman and grandson, Tom Hensel.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Fred Currie; children, Randy Currie, Rusty Currie and Carrie Dazey; grandchildren, William Currie, Vanessa Perkins, Sandy Coleman, Allen Currie, Freddie Hensel, Rusty Dazey, Jeffrey Hensel, Aimee Avera, Kaeman Perkins, Clay Perkins and Sheldon Kirsh; sister, Relda Louise Parker; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and extended family.

Serving as pallbearers are Freddie Hensel, Allen Currie, Jordan Dazey, Bubba Parker, Clay Perkins, Clifton Padgett, Clayton Padgett, Jeffery Hensel and Darian Spearman.
