James Edward Dabney

James Edward Dabney Sr., 79 of Mexia, the son of Bennie & Bertha Morrow, passed away on September 13, 2023 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia surrounded by family and loved ones.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Brother Paul Moore officiating.  Interment will follow at LaSalle Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. 

James was born on May 7, 1944 in Mexia, Texas. He ran his own concrete business for 30 years, and was employed for many years by Gamble Cemetery Service in Mexia.  His family was important to him and his grandchildren were a big part of his heart. 

James was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Willard, Bosley, Tommy Dabney Sr. and Steve Pingleton; son, James Dabney, Jr.; infant brother and grandson, Terrance James Adams. 

He is survived by his wife, Sue Dabney; children, Billy Wilhite, Terry Adams & wife, Susan;  Beverly Nix & husband James and LaDonna Cantrell; sisters, Sue Morrow and Datha Ledbetter; grandchildren, Ashelee Graham & husband, William, Aimee Owens & fiancé, Ruben, Brittany Wilhite, Taylor Taylor & husband, Jacob, Terry Adams Jr. & wife, Hillary, Trevor Adams & wife, Tiffanie, Rachel Perez, Rebekah Dabney and Hannah Dabney; great-grandchildren, Aubree Graham, William Graham, Jr., Carter Derrick, Klaira Adams, Jase Adams, Emmarie Adams, Colson Adams, Addileigh Taylor, Annistyn Taylor, Boyd Taylor, Bo Adams, Luke Adams, Olivia Adams, Whitlee Adams, Jordi Adams and Huck Adams; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Serving as pallbearers are Donnie Morrow, Tommy Dabney Jr., Bennie Murphy, Terry Addams Jr., and Trevor Adams.  Honorary pallbearers are Lupe Frias and Jorge Lopez.
