Mr. Dabney was born on August 23, 1965 in Wortham, Texas to James Edward Sr. & Carolyn Louise Jones Dabney.  He was raised in Mexia and was self-employed for the first 15-20 years as a carpenter before becoming disabled.  He was baptized in 2000 by Rev. Garth Landtroop at the First United Pentecostal Church of Groesbeck.

In his early years, Jimmy loved to work and build things from wood.  He was an excellent carpenter.  He loved to look for and collect arrowheads.  His girls and grandkids were his heart.  After his disability, his friends were his life.  Jimmy was a friend to all and would give you the shirt off his back, but don’t try to take it because he had a very hot temper.  Besides the birth of his girls and grandkids, one of the proudest moments of Jimmy’s life was when his great nephew, John Ellis III enlisted in the Marines.  He would talk about him with so much pride.  He enjoyed going to his grandson’s soccer games.

James was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Dabney; uncle, Edgar Lee Jones; grandparents, Edgar & Ethel Jones and Benny& Bertha Morrow and great nephew, James Wesley Williams, Jr.  He is survived by Daughters, Hannah Dabney, Racheal Perez & Husband, Manuel and Rebekah Dabney all of Mexia; father, James Edward Dabney & wife, Sue of Mexia; sister, LaDonna Kay Dabney of Sulphur Springs, Texas;  brother, Terry Adams & wife Susan of Mexia; granddaughters, Elizabeth Abshire, Lacey Abshire and Selene Perez all of Mexia; grandsons, Josiah Perez and Hunter Abshire, of Mexia; nieces, Christon Dabney of Sulphur Springs, Amber Ellis and husband, John of Mexia and Heather Kilgore of Mexia; nephews, Bradly Kennedy and Scott Kennedy of Mexia; great-nieces, Kayla Farmer of Sulphur Springs, Shelby Kilgore of Mexia, Jadely Kennedy of Mexia, Isabella Kennedy of Mexia; great-nephews, Michael Williams of Sulphur Springs, John Ellis III of Mexia; Jackson Kilgore of Mexia and Edward Kennedy of Mexia and great-great nieces, Kinsley Farmer & Layla Farmer of Sulphur Springs.
