James Hodges Obituary

James Charles Hodges was born April 25, 1949 in Terrell, Kaufman County Texas to Jesse Allen and Maria Angeles Gamero Hodges, the 8th of 9 children. A celebration of James’ life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hubbard Cowboy Church.

James went to his heavenly home after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer on February 27, 2025 from Tehuacana, Limestone County Texas.

James grew up in Quinlan, Texas and graduated from Quinlan High School in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Judith K Starns, and the union was blessed with two sons: Robert C Hodges and Michael Joseph Hodges.

On March 14, 1992 James married Jeanne Schladt Cole, to whom he remained married to until his parting.

James livelihood was in quality and safety with Intercontinental MFG Co, Otis Engineering. Haliburton, Marmon Motors, and MBNA/Bank of America. James retired in 2017 from Bank of America after 18 years of service.

James journey with Jesus began as a boy, raised in the Catholic church and serving as an altar boy.

While attending services at Miller Road Baptist Church, in Garland, Texas, he was presented with the gospel by CW Fisk in the 1970s. It was then that James began to know Jesus as his Savior. As a result, James served for a season of time with the bus ministry at Miller Road Baptist Church.

After a time apart from the Lord (Psalm 139 7-13), James and Jeanne began to attend Woodlake Baptist Church in Carrollton, Texas around 1996. This was a time of renewal, growth, and understanding the amazing grace of Jesus. Hearing the word being taught in such a way as to know how to divide the truth and test the spirits allowed James to begin experiencing Jesus as the Redeemer and Lord.
James' love for playing guitar was re-ignited and he shared his God-given talent during Sunday services and special events. He also became involved in the Awana Club as a listener.

In 2004, after a move to Prosper, Texas, the Lord lead James and Jeanne into the Cowboy Church ministry. (This is an great story in itself of the amazing work of God's hand!) James served as Team leader for the band at Trail to Heaven Cowboy Church (Celina), Saddle Creek Cowboy Church (Prairie Point), and Cowboy Church of Cooper Creek (Aubrey).

After retiring (2017) from BOA and moving to the country, James served for time at Lone Star Cowboy Church (Mexia) before retiring to Hubbard Cowboy Church.

It was during these 20 years involved with ministry that James' faith increased, he fully trusted in the Lord and rested in the will of the Lord, even to the end. (Proverbs 3:5-7)

James' humble, gentle, humorous, charismatic spirit, and his gift of discernment allowed James to serve in other leadership roles whether in the forefront or behind the scenes, encouraging others to grow in the Lord. His sole purpose was to glorify the Lord in all he did. (Col 3:23)

James loved his family and was very proud of his sons and grandchildren. He was a loyal friend regardless of time or distance. James was a praying man, thoughtful, and protective of his family and friends. James' presence will be missed by many cherished friends and family.

James is preceeded in death by his mother and father Maria Angeles Gamero and Jesse Allen Hodges, his brothers Robert 'Bobby' Hodges and Jesse 'Tony' Hodges, sisters Linnie Hodges MCormick, Lucy Hodges Collins, Mary Jane Hodges Vance.
