James Marcum Obituary

James Burton Marcum, 81 years of age, from Mexia, Texas, left this earth to go home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel.

He was born in Keller, TX to parents James and Vernia Marcum who both proceeded him in death. James attended Keller High School, graduating in 1957, where he participated in football and held several records for track that were not broken until recent years.

He married his first wife, Shirley Harrington, in 1958 and they had a happy life for 39 years until she preceded him in death in 1997. James was a lucky man when he met and fell in love with Billie Buie in 1998. They were married in Waco that year and were blessed with 22 years of happiness together.  James worked for General Motors at their production plant in Arlington, TX and retired after 32 years of service to the company. He grew up attending Keller Baptist Church and was a long-time member there. In recent years his church home has been Petty's Chapel Baptist Church in Corsicana, TX. He was proud to have been a member of the Freemasons for a number of years. James had a zest for life and was passionate about many things. He loved working on cars and tinkering in his shop. He found joy in being outdoors riding his tractor out in the sunshine. Somewhat of a handy man, he was an avid DIYer. He had a lifelong love of good food ... butter pecan ice cream being his favorite.

He was also preceded in death by Daughter Bonnie Marcum, Sister Verna Crowder and brothers-in-law Dennis Harrington and Carl Harrington, as well as In-laws Matthew & Billie Harrington and William & Jean Buie. James' family was his pride and joy. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed the time he spent with them just visiting or playing games, and was proud of their many accomplishments.

He is survived by his loving wife Billie Marcum of Mexia, TX, as well as children Renae Gromatzky of Hamilton, TX. Shauna Bounds & husband Garland of Enchanted Oaks, TX, Matt Marcum of Beaumont, TX, Kirby Culp & wife Cindy of Woodway, TX, and Sunny Edwards of Waco, TX; Grandchildren Wendy Keonin & husband Adam of Urbandale, IA and their sons Karsten, Kovey & Kevani.
