Jerry Lynn Samford, 70, of Mexia entered his heavenly home on May 28, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Interment to follow at Point Enterprise Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 pm. Ray Jones will serve as the officiant.
Jerry was born August 27, 1953 to Alvie and Lorene (Taylor) Samford. He was a member of the Mexia High School Class of 1971 and attended McLennan Community College. On January 10, 1974, Jerry married Cathy Allsup Samford and they were married for 50 years. Jerry started his career in the HVAC industry while attending college in Waco and later moved back to Mexia and started his own company. In the early 1980s, he decided to transition to a new career and went to work for Lone Star Oil & Gas. This began his long career in the oil & gas production industry. He retired from Enbridge Energy in 2014. He then got to do what he loved the most which was work on projects around the house and play with his grandkids and great grand kids.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Chris Parks. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Samford of Mexia, daughter, Michelle Parks of Mexia, son Sam Samford and wife Krystal of Paris, Texas, grandchildren, Rebekah Parks (Justin McClellan), Jadyn Samford McDonald (John McDonald), Rylee Samford, Maverick Samford, Oakland Samantha (Sammie) Samford and Khalessi (KJ) Samford, great-grandchildren, Taytum McDonald and Presley McDonald, and a brother, Norman Samford and wife Virginia of Mexia.
Serving as pallbearers for the service will be Brian Samford, Kevin Samford, Eric Samford, Scott Samford, Robert Lafoy, Mikal Lafoy, Stacy Wright and Cody Thompson.
