Jo Ann Morton

Jo Ann Morton, 85, of Mexia, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026. Born on December 28, 1940, in Corsicana, Texas to Ralph Cody Absher and Myrl Absher (nee Lynch). She graduated from Blooming Grove High School in 1959, and she married Percy Grover Morton that same year. Although she has resided in various locations in and around Navarro County, she always considered Corsicana to be her home.

Jo Ann devoted much of her life to teaching. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1983, and she taught at several elementary schools in Navarro County, Texas. She was a loving, devoted mother.

She is survived by her son, Percy Don Morton and wife Bobbie Morton; sister, Kay Halbert and husband Curtis Halbert. She is also survived by the following grandchildren: grandson, Stuart Morton and wife, Misty Morton; granddaughter, Whitney Ingram and husband Bo Ingram; grandson, Austin Bailey and significant other, Devon Cruz; Madison Morton and significant other, Jordan Gentsch; and Christian Bailey. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren and a niece, Amy Epley.

She was preceded in death by her by her father, Ralph Cody Absher; her mother Myrl Wilson; and, her stepfather, Howard Wilson (who lovingly raised her).

Jo Ann’s love and faith-filled heart will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel, with Reverend Bill Wright, Jr. officiating.  Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m.  A graveside will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana with Don Morton officiating.  Serving as pallbearers are Stewart Morton, Cody Darby, Bo Ingram and Austin Bailey.
