Linda Sue Dyer

Linda Sue Dyer, 76 of Mexia, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 25, 2024.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel.  Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery.  The family will gather to receive friends for visitation on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Linda was born on January 9, 1948 in Great Bend, Kansas to Ocie & Patsy Freeman Awalt.  She had been in the Mexia community since 1963.  She married William Thomas Dabney Sr. on August 28, 1965 in Tehuacana, Texas.  During her career, she was a licensed nurse, spending 30 years at the Mexia State School, HOT for 14 years, Limestone Detention Center for 2 years, and the Manor Nursing Home for 7 years.  She loved being a nurse and taking care of people.

When she wasn’t working, she loved gardening; she was a member of the Mexia Garden Club. She even was proud to have been awarded the Yard of the Month from the club. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She was a member of the Assembly of God in Mexia. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her son, John Dabney. Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Dabney and Gail Dabney Jenkins & husband, Stacey Jenkins; son, Tommy “Junior” Dabney & wife, Paula; grandchildren,  Raylyn Jenkins, Lynn Jenkins, Emily Baize & Trevor, Kaitlynn Dabney & Logan Barfield, Sean Ridge & Inna Davenport, Will Dabney & Ava Havard, Zack Dabney, Dakota Dabney, Madelyn Dabney Evans & Bo Evans; great-grandchildren, Hunter Baize, Chloe Baize, Kayden Baize, Bentley Baize, Carter Dabney, Roper Diaz, Adalynn Dabney, Cooper Dabney, Kash Havard, Hayes Evans, Harlyn Evans and Addison Dabney; special friend, Margarita Pevia; dear friend, James Eakins; cousins, Sherry Awalt Harper, Cindy Anderton, Lori Leger and Mary & Mike Gough; along with aunts, cousins and special friends. 

Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Dabney, Donnie Morrow, Bennie Murphy, Will Dabney, Kaitlynn Dabney and Sean Ridge.
