Elvie Mae Ward, 88 of Wortham, passed away on June 5, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Wortham, with Reverend Rick Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Cade Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Services.
Mrs. Ward was born on February 7, 1933 in Teague, Texas to William & Lula Reynolds Beene. She loved visiting people and never met a stranger. Her family was very important to her, and she loved them very much. A few of her favorite things were humming, snacking and her favorite coffee was McDonald’s. She loved traveling and pointing out the road signs and could have a whole conversation on those signs. She sold Avon for 40 years, winning several prizes.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Ward, as well as her parents and several sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Sutherland & husband, David of Wortham; granddaughters, Autumn Cox & husband, Lee of Groesbeck and Cassi Cawthorn of Baytown; grandson, Cory Cawthorn & wife, Tamara of Streetman; sister, Marilyn Finley of Hewitt; brother, William Beene of Wortham; great-granddaughters, Kealen Beavers and Kennedy Cox; great-grandsons, Kuper Cox, Trynen Cawthorn, Colten Pack, Canton Cawthorn and Coy Cawthorn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are David Cantrell, Richard Hileman, Walter Simmons, Rowdy Good, Mark Cawthorn and Marvin Young.
