Marianne Donahew, 77 of Mexia, passed away on August 29, 2022 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia. A time of remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Tranquillo Ranch in Mexia.
Ms. Donahew was born on March 18, 1945 in Waco, Texas to James Patrick Donahew, Jr. and Mary S. Sleeper. She was a former co-owner of Mexia Pump & Motor. After the business was sold, Marianne went back to school and received her Bachelor’s degree from Paul Quinn College and later a Master’s Degree from the University of Phoenix. After graduation, she went into education, teaching special education, which was dear to her heart. She loved teaching in special education and working with troubled kids. She spent time teaching at the Methodist Home Boys Ranch, Brookhaven, Hillsboro ISD and Marlin ISD.
Marianne was very artistic, she loved painting and being crafty. She even at one time, owned a ceramic shop in Mexia. Her greatest joy though, was being “Gran” to Jordan and later being “Great-Gran” to John.
Preceding Ms. Donahew in death was her parents, J.P. and Mary Donahew. She is survived by her daughter, Traci LaFoy & husband, Mikal of Mexia; grandchildren, Jordan Howard & wife, Hannah of Hewitt, Bradlee LaFoy & wife, Laney of Teague and Coalton LaFoy of Teague; great-grandson, John Howard of Hewitt; sister, Diane Gray & husband, Gary of Gulf Breeze, Florida; nephews, Bryan Gray & wife Regina, Steven Gray and Garret Gray & wife, Ashlee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
