Marie Iacono, age 86, passed away at home with family by her side on Saturday, December 7, 2024 in Mexia, Texas.
Etta Marie Ellison Iacono was born on January 14, 1938 to Philip Woodard “Slim” Ellison and Sleaty Iver Blount Ellison in Bradshaw, Tx. She grew up in the Houston area. Marie was a feisty, stubborn, and independent woman who you couldn’t help but love. She was an avid bowler and went by the name of Big Mud in those days. Marie also enjoyed sewing and quilting throughout her years. Those creations are precious gifts her family will cherish. Marie’s love for her animals might have surpassed her love for her own children. But seriously, Marie adored her two children, her grands & greats and she loved spending time with them. Marie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tehuacana.
Marie leaves behind her children, Billy Marcus Wright, Jr and wife Tricia of Mexia; daughter, Iver “Ivy” Wright Spakes of Mexia. She is survived by her grandchildren, Leland Marcus Wright and wife Jennifer of Lampasas; Iver Michelle “Mikki” Roberson Riffenburg and husband Bobby of Fairfield; Amanda Marie Roberson Howard of Mexia; and Lindsey Leann Wright Carter and husband Jami of Mexia; Great-grandchildren: Emalee Joyceann, Madison Marie, Colton Ryan & Dyanne, Clayton Marcus, Jackson Douglas, Remington Blake, Keelynn Ann, Charlee Marie, and Kyle Aikman; soon-to-arrive great-great granddaughter, Nova Jane; brother, Thomas Wayne “Sonny” Ellison of Houston; sisters: Eva Rhodes of Sunnyvale and Mary Jackson of Lucas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Let’s not forget her two dogs and six cats.
She is preceded in death by her mother Sleaty Ellison and father P.W. Ellison; brothers: Eddie Ellison and Dewy Ellison. She is reunited with her beloved husband, Sam Iacono.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm at Jones Funeral Services in Mexia. Funeral services will take place at First Baptist Church of Mexia at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, officiating will be Reverend Jeff Wright and Reverend David West.
