Mary Evelyn Beard-Brown

Mary Evelyn Beard-Brown, 91 of Mexia, passed away on February 20, 2024 at Integrity Care Living in Mexia. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Wayne Grabbs and Jan Harrison, officiating.  Interment will follow at Mexia Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. 

Mary was born on May 3, 1932 in Mexia, Texas to Lester R. & Rachel D. Johnson.  She was in the community her whole life, and retired after 25 years as a medical secretary at the Mexia State School.  She was the secretary/treasurer for 52 years of the local VFW chapter, was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of the IOOF, and was a hospital pink lady, where she ran the gift shop for many years. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Brown; brothers and sisters, J.L. “Lefty Person & wife, Marie, Wanda Bednarz, Weta Denton & husband, James and Dickie Lee Person and nephews, Jerry Butler and Terry Person. 

Surviving Mary are her daughter, Pat Adams of Mexia; granddaughter, Melissa Easterling & husband, Steve of Mexia; grandson, Marc Pilkington of Mexia; great grandchildren, Caitlin Curry & husband, James of Mexia, Seth White of Waco, Brooklyn Pilkington of Fairfield and Gage Pilkington of Fairfield; great-great grandchildren, Miley Jo Curry of Mexia and Rhett Curry of Mexia; sister-in-law, Violet Person of Montgomery, Texas; special friends, Blaine & Cindy Colbert and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Serving as pallbearers are Marc Pilkington, Seth White, Gage Pilkington, James Curry, Blaine Colbert and Darrell Spurlock.

Memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Limestone Cancer Support Group, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or the local VFW Chapter.
