Morgan Craig Obituary

Morgan Craig, 86, of Wortham, Texas, went to see his Lord & Savior on January 26, 2025. He was born in Navarro County, Texas, to William Morgan and Matie Day Craig on November 23, 1938. He grew up in and around Dawson, Streetman, and Wortham, Texas, with his two brothers, Tommy and Sam. Days were filled with farming and ranching, having fun with cousins, and riding his gray horse, Smokey. His childhood instilled in him a love for his family, all animals, the outdoors, and hard work.

Morgan was drafted and served in the army from 1963 – 1964 and was honorably discharged from reserve duty in 1967. On his return home from active duty (and with the help of his brother Tommy due to his immense shyness), he met and fell head over heels for the love of his life, Linda, his wife of 60 years.  They were married on June 5, 1964, and spent over 60 years as husband & wife.

In addition to working countless hours for ABCO, Chatanooga Glass, and the Mexia State School, his true passion was working on the ranch. A Jack-of-all-trades, there was never a task he couldn’t complete utilizing good ol’ Southern engineering. Of course, he later took his role of “work supervisor” very seriously and spent countless hours watching to make sure his family completed their tasks to his specifications.

He was a devoted father to his two sons, and Poppy to 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He loved his family fiercely and lived to make sure his “Sug” and all of their grands and greats were sufficiently spoiled. Poppy was always up for an adventure – whether it was fishin’ at the tank, visiting every bench at Walt Disney World, and eating barbecue at every restaurant on our annual family trip to Branson.

Some of Morgan’s favorite past times included watching his never-ending supply of Westerns, sitting on the front porch watching all of Wortham drive by, and snacking on Little Debbies from his favorite recliner.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sons, Dwayne (Ronda) of Graham, TX and Jeff (Rebekah) of Wortham; grandchildren: Kelsey (Ryan) Easterling of Graham, TX; Dayna Craig or Portland, Oregon; Kaylee (Ethan) Lazor of Graham, TX; and Morgan Reid Craig of Wortham, TX; great granddaughters Layla Easterling, Lily Easterling, and Camilla Lazor; and brother Sam Craig of College Station, TX, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Northcrest Church of Christ in Mexia on Friday, January 31st at 11:00 AM. Due to Linda’s recent heart surgery, there will be no family visitation.
