Ricky Lee Walts, 67 of Mexia, passed away on October 18, 2025 at his residence. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Thornton with Reverend Tracy Sims, officiating. A private family graveside will be held at a later date.
Born in Waco, Texas, on February 22, 1958, to Billy Joe Walts and Peggy Lou (Smith) Walts, Ricky grew up in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1977. After graduation, he moved with his parents to Lake Mexia, where he met the love of his life, Jerri Lynne McMahon. The two were married in July 1979.
Ricky and Jerri moved to Waco in January 1980, and in October 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Kristi Ann. In May 1985, their family grew again with the birth of twin sons, Joseph Aaron and Matthew Lee. In January 2001, Ricky and Jerri moved back to Mexia with their family, where they have resided ever since.
Ricky began his career at M&M Mars in 1978, where he worked faithfully for 29 and a half years before retiring in February 2008. Later that same year, he joined Mexia ISD in the maintenance department, where he served diligently until his retirement in December 2024.
Ricky loved people—he never met a stranger and could always carry a conversation. He especially loved his children and grandchildren, who brought him endless joy. Ricky loved Jesus and his church family at Central Baptist Church in Thornton, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Peggy Walts; his father- and mother-in-law, Carroll and JoAnn McMahon; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife, Jerri Lynne Walts of Mexia; daughter, Kristi Tollison (Michael); sons, Joseph Walts (Nicole) and Matthew Walts (Danielle); and six grandchildren—Natalie, Laney, Siler, Case, Blake, and Bowen. He is also survived by his siblings and many other cherished family members.
We take comfort in knowing that Ricky is no longer suffering in his earthly body, but is now rejoicing and praising our Lord with fellow believers.
