Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Lane Smith passed away unexpectedly on June 21, 2025 at his residence in Worthan, Texas at 69 years old.  The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.  Lane was born on January 19, 1956 in Dallas, Texas.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Bill Wright, Jr. officiating.  The family will receive friends starting at 9:00 a.m.  

 

Lane was preceded in death by his father, John Lee Smith; mother, Glenda Lee Cregger; mother & father-in-law, Peggy Kilgore Bozeman & Tom Bozeman and brother-in-law Garlin Ray Kilgore 

 

Left behind to cherish Lane's memory are his wife of 29 years, Diana Kilgore Smith; his children, Kristy Nacole Smith Waterman, Brandin Lane Smith, Tiffany Angeline Hughes Schwartz and Kimberly Blair Hughes Weaver.  He will also be forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren David Waterman, Henry Waterman, Paytin Smith, Colton Smith, Kenzie Smith, Austin Richard Schwartz and Conrad Lee Weaver and great-grandchild, Amelia Smith; brother, Kenneth Loyd Carter and wife, Carol; sisters, Kerrie Gayle Jones and husband, Mark,  Shirley Jean Blacker husband Richard and Pamela June Allen husband Johnny; step-brother, Donovan Smith, Delene Smith and Jo Wilson and husband Rick; sister-in-law, Patricia Wilcox and husband George and brother-in-law, Kenneth Ray Kilgore.  

 

Lane was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed being a part of the Mexia Bass Club of Mexia, golfing and building and flying model planes. Lane enjoyed teaching his grandson how to fish, fly model airplanes and play golf. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge he would spend time doing research on topics of interest.

 

Lane was never hesitant to take on new opportunities and did everything with honesty and integrity. He loved to drive and always loved good road trips to Colorado. He had strong values and was well liked by everyone, mostly due to his positive energy. Lane had incredible patience and always made time to help others. His legacy will be forever reminding that we control our attitudes, life we choose to live, a life of meaning love and service Christ modeled for us. There are no words that can express how blessed and grateful we are to have known such a wonderful and loving husband, father and friend to many.
