Scott Gary Obituary

Scott Douglas Gary, 54 of Groesbeck, passed away December 17, 2022, in the comfort of his home.  Scott was born on April 24, 1968, to James “Doug” & Marilyn Ruth Gary in Destin, Florida.  Scott was raised in Huntsville, Texas, where he was part of the Huntsville High School graduating class of 1986.  From there, he went on to attend Sam Houston State University.  He began working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he would retire from 24 years later.  After retiring, he then spent his days bailing hay, tending to his garden and landscaping.  In 2020, he left Huntsville, to be closer to his grandchildren, to which his world was centered around, where he enjoyed the rest of his days until his passing. 

 

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, James “Doug” & Marilyn Ruth Gary, paternal grandmother, Dot Whitaker Smith and maternal grandparents, Frank & Clara Brooks. 

 

He is survived by his children, Shelby Christ & husband, Eric of Teague, Megan Britton & husband, Fred of Groesbeck and Justin Gary & wife, Morgan of Huntsville; sisters, Marla Hash & husband, Jim of San Antonio, Susan Wilburn & husband, Keith of Silverton; six grandchildren, Khaydence, Bradlee, Masynn & Lillian Christ of Teague, Mallory Britton of Groesbeck and Callie Gary of Huntsville; as well as his best buddy, his English Bulldog, Gus.

 

Per Scott’s wishes, he will be cremated.  The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
