The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Honorary pallbearers are Dean Ward, Dennis Greensage, Billy Jack Adam, Lane Carpenter, Virgil Yoakum, Tommy Wright, Pat Erskine & Bob Wilson.

Doug was born on March 29, 1947 in Temple, Texas to William Douglas Hooks, Sr. & Dixie Cook Hooks. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1965 and then from Sam Houston State University in 1969. He had a very passionate opinion, right or wrong, no matter the subject. He enjoyed politics, cars, music and sporting his Hawaiian shirts. Doug was very civic oriented, being a Mexia City Councilman, Mayor Pro-Tem, was active in the Mexia Chamber of Commerce, led the Clean Up Mexia Campaign and spent 13 years on the Bistone Water Board. While he was a member of the city council, he was proud to have been able to get raises for the police and fire departments.

Doug was a natural entrepreneur, starting several businesses that entailed everything from carpet cleaning to insurance to his Texas Sound & Service Electronics Store in Huntsville. His favorite venture was when he owned and operated Two Di For in Mexia, doing his woodworking and crafting custom picture frames. He loved that business and the relationships he made with his customers.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Dianne Hooks; parents, William Douglas & Dixie Cook Hooks; paternal grandparents, John William & Lula Elizabeth Snell Hooks; maternal grandparents, Jessie James & Carrie Couch Cook and maternal aunts & uncles, Hettie & Charles Nutley and Jessie Cook.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Frost Hooks of 52 years; daughter, Ashley Hall & husband, Matthew of Mexia; granddaughters, Mattelyn Cate Hall & Morgan Ashley Hall of Mexia; grandsons, Justin Frost McClellan & Jacob Cade McClellan of Wortham; mother-in-law, Janis Frost of Mexia; sisters, Melanie Rogers & husband, William Shannon of Dallas and Nannette Gummelt & husband, Marshall of Crawford; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Melanie & Jon Holloway and Marcus & Molly Frost, all of Mexia; and maternal aunt, Edna Cook of Marlin.

The family ask that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Doug's memory to The Waco Center for Youth, 3501 N. 19th St., Waco, Texas 76708 or directly on their website at www.wacovsc.org.
